Inclement Weather Policy (see below) CALL 419-663-2828 for a recording of Huron County’s Roadways most up-to-date levels. St. Alphonsus (Peru) and St. Joseph (Monroeville) are located within Huron County, Ohio
Whenever a county/city within the Diocese of Toledo is placed under a Level 3 Snow Emergency, during which all roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel, the Catholic Churches within that geographic region will cancel the scheduled Saturday Vigil, Sunday, or Holy Day Masses. Roman Catholics in that region, therefore, are dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass. If Masses are cancelled, Catholics are encouraged to participate in Holy Mass via television, radio, or internet, making a spiritual Communion. When Mass is cancelled, all other diocesan, parish, or school events in that geographic region are also cancelled
If you live outside Huron County and a level 3 snow emergency is declared in your county, even if not declared in Huron County where St. Alphonsus’s & St. Joseph’s churches are located, you are still dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass. Also, if Mass is cancelled due to a level 3 snow emergency and then later the alert is lowered to level 2 shortly before Mass, Mass will remain cancelled at St. Alphonsus & St. Joseph if there are less than two hours before Mass time, as there would be insufficient time to clear the parking lots and sidewalks. Local media, including 95.3 WLKR (www.wlkr.northcoastnow.com) and the Huron County Sheriff’s department (www.huroncountysheriff.org) will post weather emergency information.
