Marriage

“Jesus said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave [his] father and [his] mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ It [marriage] is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the Church” (Ephesians 5:31-32, cf. Mark 10:7-8)

The Sacrament of Marriage is the sacred partnership of life and love between a man and woman, forged by God, that is ordered to the well-being of the spouses and to the procreation and upbringing of children.

The Diocese of Toledo has established a six-month preparation period for all couples desiring to marry. This gives the priest or deacon ample time in preparing the couple for a marriage that will last for a lifetime.

Couples preparing for marriage will complete a meaningful preparation process specially designed to help them enter into the gift and mystery of married love.

Once a couple is engaged, and even before they book a hall, they are encouraged to call the office at (419) 465-4142 and set up an appointment with Fr. Chris or Deacon Mike.  At that meeting it will be determined if the couple is free to marry (if there was a previous marriage, an annulment may be needed first) and if so, a date for the wedding can be made at that time.
